We present ourselves in many ways online. Often, we post about ourselves on social media, including information about our professions and our personal interests. As part of my online presence, I present myself as a film enthusiast, a gamer, as well as a former social media manager.
As part of my personal interests, I present myself online as a film enthusiast. I create posts about new films coming out as well as films that have already been released. Film franchises I follow closely include Marvel, DC and Star Wars. One of my most famous posts was liked by a film celebrity. After Star Wars Episode 8 released, I posted on a stream from the actor Billy D. Williams. In it, I tweeted to my followers that he should return as the character Lando Calrissian in Star Wars Episode 9, which was a famous character in the original Star Wars trilogy. He replied that he liked my tweet not a day after I tweeted it, demonstrating his recognition of my online presence. This was followed by the fact that he actually returned as Lando in Star Wars Episode 9. I don’t think he joined the movie because of me, but he seemed to be hinting at his upcoming role in the film by liking my tweet. This is a subtle way media celebrities use to confirm things without actually saying it.
Another way I build my online presence is by posting comments on movies and television shows that have already come out. My last tweet on X was about how The Book of Boba Fett and Black Adam are more similar than people might think. I said this because besides them both being part of the fantasy sci-fi genre, they are also about men who are just trying to protect their lands from people who threaten them. This was part of a larger commentary on films and television today having similar ideas and themes. Another example is comments I made on the film Logan being very much like the game/television series The Last of Us. Both are about grumpy older men protecting a young girl who they grow to love throughout their adventure. This is another example of my film/television online presence on X.
I also present myself online as a gamer through the social media platform X, formerly called Twitter. My X account follows many game companies and famous gamers so I can follow what is going on in gaming industry news. I follow these companies to find patch notes, game releases, game updates, and general game discourse. For example, I’ve been following the tweets of Ed Boon, who is one of the creators of Mortal Kombat, the fighting game series. I do this so I can learn everything about the latest games that come out from his company Netherrealm Studios, as he is very up to date on his information. Lately, he’s been discussing his current game, Mortal Kombat 1, a reboot to the whole series. This game is still yet to feature crossplay, which I’ve been looking for since the game was released in September 2023. Another gaming industry account I’ve been following is the official account for the game Multiversus. I played this game back when it was in beta phase from June 2022 to June 2023. I miss this game a lot because it’s a Smash Brothers-like fighting game starring all Warner Brothers characters. The account has been inactive since June of 2023, but will soon be active again as it has an intended release of early 2024. Soon, I will follow all their tweets. This is all part of my online gaming presence on X.
Lastly, previously I was a social media manager for a non-profit organization, Help America Hear. As part of my role, I did a variety of things to promote the non-profit to many audiences on social media. The goal of this organization was to attract people to their website for donations. Money raised through donations was used to supply hearing aids to people who were unable to afford them. As a social media manager, I posted advertisements on their social media channels for high school scholarships and free hearing aids provided by Help America Hear. I also created posts, often utilizing famous quotes, to create more awareness for this organization and also to make the company seem more scholarly. I also created awareness for the John Thomas Golf Classic, an annual charity event hosted by Help America Hear. At this event, we would auction off hearing aids to people who needed them, and have events throughout the day to celebrate the organization. I reached out to other charity groups, fraternities, sororities, and local schools to host charity events to raise money for Help America Hear. Through this work, I also built up my own online presence as a professional social media representative for this company. I sadly no longer work for the company, as they had budget cuts and decided to do the social media work in house. This is how I was a social media manager for Help America Hear, expanding their social media presence, as well as my own, on X, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
In conclusion, I am a film/television enthusiast as well as a gamer. Previously, I was also a social media manager online. I love to follow film/television news, discuss film/ television for interesting points, and follow what celebrities do on social media. I follow gaming news and discuss games on social media. When I was a social media manager for Help America Hear, I posted, reached out, and promoted the company. I hope to continue all of these things in the future, including a new job as a social media manager. These are all important parts of my life and integral parts of my online social media presence.
